What Our Students Say

Mr Skaer is both an amazing teacher and person. He got to know everyone in my math class and taught in ways that each of us could understand. And no matter how stupid of questions we asked he always answered them, whether directly or by nudging us in the right direction. He made our class an enjoyable environment that encouraged our curiosity to learn. He is such an amazing teacher that I was able to both sleep through half of the AP Calculus test and take the test with my calculator in the wrong mode while still getting a 5. An all around 10/10 teacher that I plan to keep in contact with to ask for help on more math in the future.

Steve Skaer was the best math teacher I have ever had. That may seem like a statement that you are just supposed to say to your teacher like, "yeah you're the best".
Although Steve was the most explanatory and understanding teacher I have ever had, he was my senior teacher, and he taught me college algebra, which was a very rigorous course.
Some of the things he did were break things down well, build you up well, and most of all, prepare you for the things coming in the course.
He was one of the best teachers I have ever had in my entire schooling career for many reasons. I like to call the math building blocks. All the teachers I have had in the years prior to and post Steve just went as the book went no matter if it mixed things or not.
In Steve's classroom, he used building blocks he had taught and learned math in a way that he could skip chapters and go to another chapter that would build off the one that you just learned. This helped me comprehend and understand math to its fullest extent and excel in the classroom.
Not only was he able to break things down well but he also was able to build things up well. And not only the math but also the personability of Skaer. He was able to build you up and know exactly what you needed somehow. He would be able to tell when you are off on a day and give you grief or a joke to just get you through the class. He built you up in and out of the classroom. And not only that he honestly cared about every single one of the kids in his classroom. He was excited to see you and teach you every single day of the school year. He mixed fun with learning and it made it an enjoyable math class.
He lastly prepared you well. There was never a time I sat down at one of his tests that I didn't feel prepared and ready for if I went to his class every day. If you didn't learn in class he always made sure to be able to answer any questions you had pertaining to math before you took the test and always was able to take a day before a test. He also was a miracle worker when it came to me retaking the ACT he was able to go over any questions and helped in the ACT prep for the CMR school district and was perfect for the job and raised my math score to be the highest of all my scores up to a 30 from a 26 wich is a huge thing in an academic and life stage advancement.
Steve would make the best tutor, math teacher or guidance counselor all the way to principle that I could ever imagine for a kid in elementary through high school. He has a unique loving building preparing style that he lives by in and out of the classroom. He has one of the most brilliant minds I have ever seen in my life and I would recommend him to help in the classroom to any of my family friends or loved ones.
So hears to a guy I can call a friend teacher and a brilliant math mathematician

I was fortunate to have Mr. Skaer as my high school math teacher. He taught me college algebra and AP calculus. With his instruction, I earned a 4 on the AP exam. Mr. Skaer is a great instructor because he is able to translate complex concepts into understandable steps. When a concept is particularly challenging, he approaches it from different angles until you have that light bulb moment. He is patient and encouraging. He reassures students that mistakes are part of learning. Mr. Skaer also took time to get to know students as individuals and not just math students.

Calculus is hard. I knew that this class was going to stretch my mind like no other math class I’ve taken. Quite frankly I was not sure how I would handle it even though math has come so easily to me in the past. All those worries were taken care of so fast. People say that the teacher can make or break the class and this is 100% the case. Steve Skaer (Mr. Skaer) is the best math teacher in the sense that he teaches you to understand the concepts in ways that you personally can understand. I spent many nights personally studying with him for tests and he would break down the concepts and help me understand complex math theories with nothing but a dry erase marker. Not only is he an amazing math teacher but he is an incredible father, coach, and all around person. By playing on the same tennis team as his daughter I have been able to see Skaer outside of the classroom. He loves and supports his family with a caring but hilarious personality. Mr. Skaer is amazing I will continue to reach out with questions about math, college and anything movie related! (He is the very best when it comes to movies seen and quotes from any movie you can think of)
